Signing screw ups: my pain is your gain

I've been doing a lot of signings lately for the new book and let me tell you they've been a blast. Yet while I love talking and joking with my readers, I've discovered (much to my distress) that I possess absolutely no ability to talk and write my name at the same time.

How hard can it be? Very. At least for yours truly. It doesn't take much for me to leave out words, spell a name wrong or just forget where I am entirely. When that happens and I mess up a signature, I keep the book and give my reader a new one because nobody wants a book that says, "Dear Sven. Great to read you."

Then again, these are good books. There's nothing wrong with them except for less-than-inspiring inscriptions. So how about I give some away today?

I have four copies of The Accidental Demon Slayer, signed:
  1. to Marti, Great to read you (I wasn't joking up there)
  2. to Paul, with a great message attached (unfortunately the readers name happened to be Peter)
  3. to Jenn & (evidently, Jenn was single)
  4. to Julke (insert your own joke here)
Tell me why you want a signing screw up, or just post to say you want one (Who is picky? Not me.) and you're entered to win. Contest runs until next week Tuesday. Good luck!

Hi Angie. I would like to have a copy The Accidental Demon Slayer. I don't mind if it has a signing screwup.

Lol, don't sign me up since I have all of your books :)
But oh it would be so funny to have one of these.

I really don't mind a signing screw-up (makes it more unique for me, LOL) and I would love to win a copy of The Accidental Demon Slayer! Thanks!!

My name isn't Paul, but it'd be awesome to have a book autographed to him.

I'll make up a whole backstory about how he never read "those kinds of books" until he wandered past a book reading one day and couldn't walk away because it sounded SO good.

So he bought the book, got it autographed, and then was tragically killed in a barbequeing accident. Later, his brother was cleaning out his apartment, found the book, saw the inscription and now talks about the late Paul in whispered tones.

He passed the book on to me at work so the rest of his family would never know.

I'd love to win a signed copy of one of your books - even if it didn't have my name in it! In fact I love the one you've written "nice to read you" in - that is just too like something I would do by mistake LOL!

Hi Angie,

I would love a copy of your book, and I don't mind the signing screwup. I can show my friends and have a good chuckle!! Besides I've been called so many other names growing up since kids couldn't prounounce my name right. Maybe I can be Julke or Paul. (reminds me of Paul Simon's song, You Can Call Me Al) *smile*

I would love to have a copy of your book and I don't care whose name is in it.

I have actually misspelled my name when talking and writing. It is a challenging name, but I should be used to it by now...

Can I just say you guys are getting so many points for creativity. And yes, that counts in this contest. Why not? We are making this up as we go - kind of like writing the books. ;)

I'm the same way about signing and talking. I sign a lot of checks at my business, and I absolutely have to focus when I'm doing that or weird things end up on the signature line. Heh. I'd love to win a copy of The Accidental Demon Slayer.

Hey Ange, great post!! I have my collection of screw-ups, too! But my favorite book signing story?? I'm great at remembering faces, but terrible at names. So here's a little trick I use...I always ask them how to spell their name. Works great...covers up my lack of memory. Or did until I pulled it on a woman I'd met at a couple of previous signings. She looked me straight in the eye and said, "S-u-e." Whoops!!!

Hello? The ACCIDENTAL Demon Slayer? The ACCIDENTAL signed-it-wrong-on-the-title-page book? It's priceless! Really, Angie, priceless! You know any book of yours is well worth having.

I would love one of the messed up ones. You just have to think of it in a different way. You are going green & RECYCLING!!!

hehe I'm glad to know I'm not the only that can't write and talk at the time.
I don't want a screw up though. Just had to have a laugh with you.

Hi Angie,

I'd love a screwed up signing copy of your book. I already have a good version of A Tale of Two Demon Slayers so I don't care if I get one addressed to someone else, as long as I have my own copy to read over and over again so I can quite bothering the poor librarians to look it up for me....

Hi, Angie. I'd love to have one of the signing "screw ups". LIke the one to Julke - I'd just tell people that we went to college together and had nicknames for each other because of some of the scrapes we'd get into.
But I can't tell them what my nickname means, because you and I swore we'd never talk about those things. :)

Julke!!!! That should be a new character you write about! Perfection is what I'm talkin about and a screw up on signing is actually better to me for this series; the two go perfect together! I'd like to have one that's for sure. Julke, GREAT conversation piece lol

Since my copy is nekkid a signed one would be great.... since the other Demon Slayer books on the shelf are teasing it saying "Put some ink on.... we don't need to see your whoo haa's hanging out without anything on" ....LOL

Well I would like a copy cause I read the Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers and would like to get some of the back story that I missed.

I don't mind if the signature is messed up, we're all human. Try typing your final project up while watching TV... Thank God for proof reading is all I have to say :-)
